Terbinafine, belongs to the group of medicines called antifungals. It is used to treat fungus
infections of the scalp, body, groin (jock itch), feet (athlete's foot), fingernails, and toenails.
Terbinafine Tablets are a prescription medicine for the treatment of onychomycosis. Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of fingernails
or toenails.
When you take this medication, the active ingredient, terbinafine, travels to the infected area under the toenail or fingernail.
Because terbinafine accumulates and lingers in the area of the nail that is growing, it can continue to work for months even after
your prescription is finished, allowing the nail to heal naturally over a period of time.
Topical terbinafine was approved by the FDA in 1993. Terbinafine oral
tablets were approved in 1996.
SIDE EFFECTS: Terbinafine is a very safe medication. The need to
discontinue therapy because of side effects is quite rare. The most
frequently reported side effects are diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Increases in liver enzymes, hives, itching and altered taste sensation
also have been observed. |
