Trimetazidine - generic
Vastarel - is used in the treatment of ischaemic heart disease (angina pectoris, sequelae of infarction).
Trimetazidine is a unique antianginal and anti-ischaemic agent belonging to a new class of compounds that display anti-ischaemic
effects without inducing haemodynamic changes and improve the status of the ischaemic myocardium. Trimetazidine exerts its antianginal
effects through a direct cytoprotective action on the myocardium, thereby avoiding the side effects of impaired left ventricular
function, excessive peripheral vasodilation and other disadvantages associated with the use of comparator antianginal agents.
Controlled studies in angina patients have shown that trimetazidine
increases coronary flow reserve, thereby delaying the onset of ischemia
associated with exercise, limits rapid swings in blood pressure without
any significant variations in heart rate, significantly decreases the
frequency of angina attacks, and leads to a significant decrease in the
use of nitrates.
SIDE EFFECTS: Gastrointestinal discomfort may occur infrequently
and it is usually mild. |
